How does hypnotherapy work?

Our minds work on two levels – the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. We make decisions, think and act with our conscious (logical) mind. The subconscious mind controls our habits and even influences our behaviour.  Sometimes, we want to change something but find it difficult. Quite often this is because the conscious and the subconscious minds do not agree – it can seem like you are having an argument with yourself. For example you may find yourself thinking, “I don’t want a cigarette, yes I do, and then no I don’t, then go on and have one, no I don’t want to have one”. This is an example of disagreements or conflicts between the two parts of the mind.  In hypnosis or in trance we can communicate directly with the subconscious mind without logical thought getting in the way.

We can change the subconscious part of the mind so that the two parts of the mind agree. This means you no longer feel as if you are having a fight or disagreement with yourself. The end of the inner conflict. Doing what you really want to do then just becomes easy and natural. This is why it is so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime with hypnotherapy.

How many times should I listen to the app?

We recommend following the exact order of the app, reading all of the content and listening to the audio tracks in order. We then recommend that you start the Hypnotherapy sessions by listening to the Introduction audio track once, followed by the main Quit Smoking NOW session once. You should then listen to the Booster hypnotherapy session every day for a week and every other day for the following 4 weeks. It will take around a month to fully complete this Quit program.

Will I be asleep?

No. Hypnosis is the Greek word for “sleep” but it is misleading as you do not actually “go to sleep”. Modern hypnotherapy is interactive and requires you to work with the therapist and often respond by talking and answering questions during the session. This would not be possible if you were “asleep”. Hypnosis is a heightened state of awareness (HSA). It is a naturally occurring altered state. It is better to be relaxed and listening to everything  – than to simply fall asleep.

Is Max Kirsten properly fully qualified?

He holds a Senior Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice SQHP through the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR). He is also a member of the American Board of Hypnotherapy (ABH). He is an accredited senior practitioner of the Central Register of Stop Smoking Therapists (CRSST). He is also a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), , the International Medical and Dental Association (IMDHA); the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH). He practises according to the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council’s code of ethics and has over 13 years of clinical experience and expertise. Over the years many articles about his work helping chronic smokers to quit have appeared in the National Press, and on Radio and TV.

What’s the Kirsten technique?

Max has been practising for over 13 years and has completed many thousands of hours of clinical work. He has distilled this knowledge and experience into his ‘The Kirsten Technique’ which helps most his clients to Quit Smoking in One Session. He has now released his Quit Smoking NOW app to enable many more people benefit from his technique.

As a former 30 a day smoker himself, Max understands smokers: “I’ve smoked in the cold and

rain, I’ve smoked through flu and I’ve had those blind panics you get when you run out of cigarettes late at night. I know what it feels like to try and stop smoking using willpower or patches and why those methods fail in 95% of cases. I have developed my own unique Quit Smoking Now Advanced Hypnotherapy program to help you to quit in usually just one session.”

I am worried I may not “wake up” from hypnosis

Being in hypnosis is like being in a “day dream”. It is just like you have been resting in a chair, or lying down, without being asleep. Have you ever heard of anyone getting “stuck” or not waking up from a daydream or a rest? No. After your hypnotherapy session you soon return to your usual waking state  –  just as you would if you were resting with your eyes closed at any other time.

I find it difficult to relax, do I need to relax to be hypnotised?

No. You do not need to be relaxed in order to be hypnotised. Relaxation is only one of the methods being used, but there are several others including Brainwave Frequency Entrainment, Binaural Beats and PMR Positive Mental Rehearsal. This hypnotic process has been specially created to work best with headphones.

Does it really work?

For most people, yes. Hypnotherapy on its own is NOT a magic wand, and nothing can be 100% guaranteed. You must be committed to wanting to change. Your will-power is still required to make the Quit Smoking Now program work. Using the powerful breathing exercises etc will also really help to make your quitting smoking much easier.

Is it safe?

Yes. Hypnosis is a safe and natural therapy. We cannot change your personality, or who you really are. But we can change the habits and behaviour patterns that you want to change.
